Oklahoma Sweeps Women's College World Series Finals

Dominant Performance Leads to Championship Victory

Norman, Oklahoma - June 12, 2023

In a thrilling conclusion to the 2023 Women's College World Series, the Oklahoma Sooners emerged victorious, sweeping the Florida State Seminoles 2-0 in the best-of-three finals. The Sooners' dominant performance throughout the tournament culminated in their first WCWS championship since 2021, making them the first team to win back-to-back titles since Florida in 2014-15.

Oklahoma's pitching staff proved to be unstoppable, led by ace pitcher Jordy Bahl, who threw a complete-game shutout in the championship game, allowing only two hits and striking out nine batters. The Sooners' offense also delivered, with Grace Lyons hitting a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give Oklahoma the early lead.

Florida State, despite a valiant effort, was unable to overcome Oklahoma's momentum. The Seminoles threatened in the second inning but failed to capitalize on a bases-loaded opportunity.

Oklahoma's victory marks the end of a remarkable season for the Sooners, who finished with a 59-3 record, including a perfect 10-0 mark in the WCWS. Coach Patty Gasso led the team to its fourth national championship in the past decade, further cementing her legacy as one of the greatest coaches in college softball history.
