Dutch Passport and ID Card Application or Renewal for Residents Abroad
Applying for a New Passport or ID Card
If you're a Dutch citizen residing outside the Netherlands for the first time, you can apply for a new passport or ID card at your nearest Dutch embassy, consulate, or border municipality.
Additional Requirements
To apply for a new passport or ID card, you'll need to provide additional documents such as:
- Proof of Dutch nationality (e.g., birth certificate)
- Proof of address abroad
- Recent passport-sized photo
Renewing Your Passport or ID Card
You can renew your passport or ID card if you're a Dutch citizen living abroad and your current one is expiring. The renewal process can be completed at Dutch diplomatic missions or in some cases, through the mail.
Renewing by Mail
Note that not all Dutch diplomatic missions offer the option of renewing a passport or ID card by mail. Contact the embassy or consulate responsible for your region to confirm if this is available.
